MADRE partnered with the Cámara Nicaragüense de Tabacaleros to develop a unified identity system for the chamber and its flagship initiatives.

The Organization

The Cámara Nicaragüense de Tabacaleros (CNT) is the trade organization that brings together Nicaragua’s leading premium tobacco producers and cigar manufacturers.

Today, Nicaragua stands as the largest exporter of premium cigars to the United States, and CNT represents over 95% of the country’s agro-industrial premium tobacco production.

Beyond its institutional role, the chamber also leads two of the industry’s most important promotional initiatives:

Puro Sabor, the internationally recognized Nicaraguan Cigar Festival, and Puro Humo, a gathering designed for local enthusiasts and consumers.

Both events take place annually and serve as key platforms to celebrate Nicaragua’s cigar heritage while strengthening the country’s global reputation.

The Challenge

Despite the chamber’s central role in the industry, its visual presence lacked cohesion.

Over time, the identities of the organization and its flagship initiatives had evolved independently. This created a disconnect between CNT and its most visible touchpoints, making it difficult to establish a clear and recognizable presence for the chamber.

This meant creating a framework rather than a fixed mark, one that could scale across event materials, digital communications, and promotional campaigns.

The Visual Brand Identity

At the center of the identity is a simple and meaningful isotype that merges two essential elements of cigar culture: a tobacco leaf and the flame used to light a cigar.

The color palette reinforces this symbolism. Brown connects directly to tobacco, soil, and craftsmanship, while orange introduces warmth and energy, evoking fire while bringing a contemporary edge to a traditionally conservative industry. Together, they signal a sector deeply rooted in heritage but confidently moving toward modernity.

Because CNT’s most visible expressions are its annual festivals and promotional initiatives, the identity was designed as a scalable system rather than a static mark. A distinctive graphic frame element was developed as a core brand asset, functioning both as a visual accent and as a container for photography across posters, digital communications, and event materials. This modular approach ensures consistency while allowing each initiative to maintain its own character.

Typography plays an important role in reinforcing this balance between heritage and contemporary design. Portrait Family was selected for headlines for its editorial elegance and refined contrast, bringing authority and sophistication to the identity. Yamtramanav provides clarity and rhythm for body copy, while Lora supports highlights and secondary content with warmth and readability.

Together, these elements create a refined and flexible brand system.
